Biography

Calum is a proud Hampton Roads native and a graduate of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, where he received a Bachelor’s in Political Science and Philosophy and a Master’s in Humanities. Calum returned to his hometown, Williamsburg, Virginia, to attend law school at the College of William & Mary, where he concentrated in criminal law.

Prior to forming Welch & Wright, PLLC with Nick Wright, Calum practiced traffic and criminal defense across Central Virginia. In addition to his trial work, Calum enjoys all kinds of firearm rights and Second Amendment work: from gun rights restoration petitions, concealed carry permits, to NFA trust formation and gun trust restructuring. Calum also regularly advises clients in the hemp & cannabis industry on matters of regulatory compliance and represents industry clients in administrative proceedings before state and local agencies. Calum’s experience across practice areas gives him a broad understanding of the legal system, which he uses to develop creative, holistic solutions to every case, no matter how complex.

Outside of work, Calum enjoys target and competitive shooting, travelling with his wife, and supporting the Washington Commanders during each of their rare victories.
